Johnny Marion Tanner, born on March 27, 1941, was granted his angel wings on September 24, 2014. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that he had touched in some way throughout his memorable life. His gentle soul, warm sense of humor, and big heart brought so much joy to his family and everyone that knew him. Throughout his life, he enjoyed horseback riding, fishing and camping. In recent years his favorite pastimes included riding his mule and spending time with his family. Johnny worked at the Atlanta Journal Constitution for 42 years where he met and married his wife, Diann. They were married for 33 years. "Big John" is survived by his loving wife, Diann Morrow Tanner; his mother-in-law, Violet B. Morrow; his brother, Morris Tanner Jr. (Peggy); his brother-in-law, Larry Morrow (Janie); his daughters, Sherry Fryman (Tom) and Connie Thomson; son, Kelly Pledger; grandchildren, Jennifer, Alex, Dylan, Victoria and Morgan; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sarah and Morris Tanner; sister, Margaret Dunn and father-in-law Ralph Morrow. Service will be held at Pinetucky Baptist Church on Sunday, September 28 at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Pastor Billy Morris will be presiding and the eulogy will be given by Alex Pledger. Visitation will be held at Dryden Funeral Home, this evening from 5-7.
