Joseph Bryant Maddox, 61, entered into rest Thursday, May 1, 2014. He was born in Anniston on February 8, 1953 to the late Wallace and Doris Maddox, of Oxford. Mr. Maddox served in the Army as an artillery surveyor and worked for over 20 years at the Anniston Army Depot as a heavy equipment operator. He was a lifelong resident of Oxford and an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Maddox spent the last year living with family in Evans, Ga. when his illness was discovered. He is survived by his daughter Shani Duncan, of Fort Payne; daughter Carol Gunter, of Evans, Ga.; son, Austin Maddox, of Evans, Ga.; four grandchildren, Kimberly Thomas, of Fort Payne, Lance Corporal Daniel Duncan, of Camp Pendleton, Calif., Michael Gunter and Emma Gunter, of Evans, Ga.; three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Charles Maddox, Kenny Maddox and Gary Maddox, of Oxford. A memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Oxford on Monday, May 5, 2014, at 6 p.m.
