A funeral service for Mr. Joseph C. "Calvin" Nowland, 90, of Munford, will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. The Rev. Curtis Collett will be officiating. Burial will follow at Dogwood Memorial Trail. The family will receive friends on the same day from noon until service time. Mr. Nowland passed away on February 7, 2018 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ada Lorine Nowland; daughter, Alicia Beal (Ray); sisters, Mary Jane Haynes (Jerry), Erlene Collett (Curtis), Jeanie Coley; brother, Lamar Nowland (Leona), and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Annie Nowland; brother, Johnny Nowland and sisters, Catherine Tumlin and Dorothy Speight. Pallbearers will be Harold Collett, Andy Collett, Ronnie Harman, Craig Young, Mike Willingham, and Jonathan Grace. Mr. Nowland served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Anniston Army Depot after over 30 years of service. Mr. Nowland was a member of First Baptist Church at McClellan. He loved to garden and farm. Mr. Nowland was a loving and caring husband, father, brother and friend and will be deeply missed by all who had the great pleasure of knowing him. Miller Funeral Home and Crematory 256-831-4611
