The funeral service for Mr. Joseph L. Conyers, 85, will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church of Anniston with the Reverend Pete Hawker officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the church. Mr. Conyers passed away on February 25, 2016 at NHC. Mr. Conyers was a graduate of The University of Alabama and Jacksonville State University and had retired after over 30 years as an educator with the Calhoun County Board of Education. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Anniston where he had served on the Board of Stewards and was a former Sunday school teacher. He served as president of the Anniston Jaycees and the Anniston Teachers Association. He also served as chairman of the American Cancer Society, worked on the March of Dimes and the Heart campaign. He served as president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and as president of the Northeast Alabama Dance Society. Mr. Conyers was a Mason, a member of Anniston Masonic Lodge 443 and was a member of the Anniston York Rite bodies. He had also received his 50 year pin as a Mason. Mr. Conyers was also selected as Young Man of the Year in 1965 for his service to the community. He enjoyed reading, sports and dancing. He was a devoted husband and father and loved his family very much. He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Minton Conyers. Mr. Conyers is survived by his daughters, Lisa Parris and her husband, Gary, of Anniston, Stacey Johnson and her husband, Calvin, of Tucker, Ga. and Jennifer Roberts and her husband, Phillip, of Alexandria and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Lynn Coffman, David Coffman, Michael C. Brown and Stephan Roberts. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Anniston, P.O. Box 1789, Anniston, AL 36202. The family wishes to thank the caregivers and the staff of NHC for the care given to Mr. Conyers.
