Funeral service for Joseph McCurry Sr., 83, will be Sunday, 2:30 p.m. at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Wells officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until service time. Mr. McCurry went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 7, 2014, at his home after a brief battle with lung cancer. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Gwendolyn Parker McCurry; son and daughter-in-law, Joe, Jr. and Melissa McCurry; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Chris Staton; grandchildren, Madison Staton, Jennifer McCurry, Dalton McCurry, Parker Staton and Savannah Staton; sister, Shelby Willingham; sisters-in-law, Jean Smith Hadley, Vera Davis, Joyce Parker, Jewell McCurry; brother-in-law, James Parker; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brady and Bertha Senn McCurry; brothers, Williard, Herman, Frankie and Arnold; sisters, Edna and Jimmie Nell; brothers-in-law, Gary Smith, Ronald Davis and Carlton Hadley; sister-in-law, Nell McCurry. Mr. McCurry was born in Cordova, Ala. on March 13, 1930. He retired from the United States Army with 22 years of service and served during the Korea and Vietnam wars and retired from the Anniston Army Depot with 20 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith and was a long time member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Alexandria where he served as a Deacon. He was a wonderful husband, father and Paw-Paw. He was so loved and will be truly missed by many. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be his faithful friends of the Men's Sunday School Group.
