Funeral service for Mrs. Joyce Green Welch, 83, will be Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Williams, with the Rev. Chris Thomas, the Rev. Kenneth Welch and Ted Welch officiating. The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the First Baptist Church of Williams Cemetery. Mrs. Welch went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 16, 2016. She is survived by her daughters, Debra (Randy) Hicks and Jill W. (Ty) Green; five grandchildren, Misty (Johnny) Carpenter, Amber (Wayne) Thomason, Justin Hicks, Jake (Courtney) Green and Hunter Green; two great-grandchildren, Cody and Dalton Dodd; one sister, Marguerite (Mutt) Welch; two sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Green and Dolores Green; one brother-in-law, Bill Green; numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Justin Hicks, Jake Green, Hunter Green, Cody Dodd, Dalton Dodd and Wayne Thomason. Mrs. Welch was born into a loving family on February 1, 1932 in Calhoun County. She grew up on a farm and graduated high school on May 26, 1950. One day after graduating, she married her soul mate, Hollis Perry Welch. They spent 65 years together working hand in hand on their farm where they raised two daughters and helped in raising seven grandchildren. During this time they instilled quality memories and life lessons that will be remembered and cherished forever. Mrs. Welch had an enormous influence on her children and grandchildren and was deeply loved by all of them. Although Mrs. Welch helped work on their farm, she also worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture where she retired after many years. Mrs. Welch was a member of the First Baptist Church of Williams. She taught their Beginners Sunday School Class for decades and was very active in the church while she was able to attend. Mrs. Welch loved to sing in the choir and was a good Christian woman who loved helping others. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. Mrs. Welch was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Evie Green; her husband, Hollis Perry Welch; a brother and sister-in-law, James (Martha) Green; a sister and brother-in-law, Wynella (Frank) Waits; a sister, Bootsie Green; brothers, Paul and Ralph Green; and a brother and sister-in-law, Edkar (Jo) Green.
