Funeral service for Kay McIntyre Tolbert, 65, was Monday, March 23, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Piedmont with the Rev. Harry Warren officiating. Burial followed at Piedmont Memory Gardens. Mrs. Tolbert passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 at Riverview Regional Medical Center. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, William Edsel Tolbert, of Jacksonville; two daughters, Julie Tolbert Nix, of Anniston and Kelly Tolbert (Roy Jaurigue), of Prescott, Arizona; one granddaughter, Olivia Fair Nix, of Anniston. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Berry McIntyre and Dorthy Acker McIntyre. Pallbearers were family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers were the Board of Directors of Children's Services. A native of Piedmont, Mrs. Tolbert graduated from Piedmont High School in 1967 and received her degree in secondary education from Jacksonville State University in 1972. She began working with the Calhoun County Department of Human Resources in 1972 and she spent the next 26 years as a social worker, a supervisor, and program supervisor. During her time at DHR, Mrs. Tolbert helped organize the Alabama Parents Anonymous Board and the Third Congressional District Council of the Children's Trust Fund. She was honored as the first Social Worker of the year by the local chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. After retiring from DHR in 1998 she became executive director of Children's Services Inc. in Anniston. The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Children's Services Inc. , P.O.
