Memorial service for Mr. Kenneth Edwin (Ken) Stone, 80, of Ashland will be Sunday, November 9, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland, Ala., with Dr. Richard Hodges and the Rev. Dan Keith officiating. Mr. Stone passed away on Sunday, November 2, at the Lineville Health and Rehabilitation Center, Lineville, Ala. He was born in Four Mile, Ala. in Shelby County on June 9, 1934. He graduated from high school in Tarrant, Ala. and joined the U.S. Navy in 1958. He served on the USS Salem and USS Canberra and had many wonderful memories of his travels around the world during his tour of duty. He was employed by Scientific Atlanta, Inc., Atlanta, Ga. as an electronic technician and production supervisor, with Ethyl Corp. in Newnan, Ga. as an associate engineer and retired from IBEW Local 613 in Atlanta as an electrician. He owned and operated Young's Farm Supply in Ashland from 1998 until 2003. At the age of 70 he went back to school to obtain his CDL license and drove 18 wheelers for Floyd Beasley and Frontier South until heart failure and diabetes forced his final retirement in 2008. Mr. Stone had many interests including flying, good music, repairing all manner of items and working on his farm. He loved to horse camp at Hollins, Ala., Tennessee and Kentucky and loved riding his fast racking mare "Goldie." Mr. Stone was a member of First Baptist Church in Ashland and attended Mannings Chapel Friendship Church. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rebecca Smith Stone, of Ashland; three sons, Bryan Edwin Stone (Angie) of Fayetteville, Ga., Bennie Keith Caldwell, of Ashland, Brian David Caldwell (Jada) of Carrollton, Ga.; beloved friend and adopted daughter, Terri Cabeza (Steve) of Lineville; grandsons, Kyle Stone (Jessica), of Atlanta, Ga., Harrison Loftin, of Athens, Ga., Conner & Ethan Caldwell, of Carrollton, Ga.; one granddaughter, Madelyne Caldwell, of Carrollton, Ga.; step grandchildren, Mathis & Sabrina Stephens; one great grandson, Kendrick Stephens, of Fayetteville, Ga.; one sister, Jacqueline Jeanette Martin, of Athens, Ga.; a number of nieces and his much loved little poodle Tweetie. Mr. Stone was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Edwin Stone and Ruby Zelda Crane Stone; one sister, Sara Stone Lyle. The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home, Ashland, AL two hours before service time from 1-3 p.m. The family requests no flowers.
