A funeral service for Kenneth Edwin Wood, 86, will be held Sunday, January 3, 2016, at 2 p.m. at West Side Baptist Church in Jacksonville with the Revs. Ken Phillips and Truman Norred officiating. Burial will be in Jacksonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. Mr. Wood went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, December 30, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Bette A. Wood, of Jacksonville; his son, Kenneth Wood and his wife, Katie, of Springville; one sister, Mary Joyce Wood Dieter; two grandchildren, Joshua Wood and his wife, Beth, of St. Augustine, Fla. and Allison Wood, of Moody; two great-grandchildren, Brynna Wood and Morgan Wood; nieces, Tammy Hale and her husband, Don (Paige and Reide Hale), Debbie Johnson and her husband, Tommy, Robin Kaetzel and her husband, Jason; a nephew, Mark Barnwell and his wife, Joyce; beloved family members, Samantha Carroll (R.J., Emma, Luke), Ben and Lyndsey Johnson (Clayton and Brooklyn), Emily and Jonathan Burton (Madison) and his church family. Pallbearers will be Deacons and Yoke Fellows of West Side Baptist Church. Mr. Wood was a 1948 graduate of Jacksonville High School and attended Jacksonville State University in 1952. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1948 - 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Anniston Army Depot with 30 years service and was building inspector with the City of Jacksonville for 8 ½ years. Mr. Wood served as a District Scout Executive with Boy Scouts of America for 10 years. He served on the Civil Service Board for the City of Jacksonville from 1991 - 1999 and was a member of the Jacksonville Housing Authority, Jacksonville Leased Housing Authority and Chimney Peak Development Board. A deacon at West Side Baptist Church, Mr. Wood was Assistant Sunday School Superintendant at West Side Baptist Church. A special thanks is extended to Amedysis Home Health Care of Anniston and Amedysis Hospice of Rainbow City. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Durro E. Wood.
