A memorial service for L. Dwight Phillips, 70, will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at Return to Bethel Church on Tanner Williams Road in Mobile, Ala. Mr. Phillips passed away on July 4, 2015. Visitation will be at the church from 6 until 7 p.m. Mr. Phillips was born Nov 22, 1944 in Ohatchee and was a graduate of Alexandria High School and a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Phillips joined the Navy through the Naval Reserve Program and after serving two years on active duty he was honorably discharged and returned to the Gadsden/Birmingham area. As a distinguished member of the IBEW Local 136 from Sept 14, 1968 until his retirement in May 2007 Mr. Phillips performed work throughout the continental U.S. as an industrial construction electrician and when based at home, periods as Assistant Business Manager for Local 136. During his travels Mr. Phillips worked on many major new and upgrade projects such as automotive and electrical power plants and the Alaskan Pipeline. He became well known and respected by his peers and others for his knowledge and abilities. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Andrews, of Mobile; loving daughter, Christy Phillips, of Gadsden; loving brother, Larry Phillips, of Wellington; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Christine Phillips and Brother Earl Phillips, all of Wellington. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made in Mr. Phillips name.
