Service for Larry Douglas "Doug" Smith, 66, will be on Thursday, May 12, 2016. Visitation will be at 5:30 p.m. with a Memorial service at 6 p.m. with a reception immediately following at World Alive International Outreach Church, Coldwater officiated by Chaplain Winfred Logan. Doug passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016, at his home in Munford after a long hard fought battle with cancer. Doug was a native and lifelong resident of Munford. He was a Marine Corp Veteran and retired from International Enterprises of Talladega. Doug loved fishing and being in the mountains. He loved being surrounded by family and friends, cooking and grilling. He had a dry sense of humor and loved playing jokes on anyone he could and many famous sayings such as "If you need me I'll call you", to his kids "I was born at night but it wasn't last night" and calling his wife affectionately "The War Department." He is survived by his mother, Frances Smith; his wife of 44 years, Rita (Curry) Smith; son, Keith (Jennifer) Smith; daughter, Mindy Smith Sanders; his sisters, Vicki Jones, Carol Boothe and Jo Williams. He has five grandchildren, Riley Smith, Caitlin Smith, Kirsten Langley, Ellis Smith and Aidan Sanders. He was preceded in death by his father, Garland Smith.
