Funeral service for Larry Wayne Cato, 69, will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at 2 p.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Roger Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Lebanon Christian Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2016. Mr. Cato passed away Monday, January 25, 2016, at Bethany House in Auburn. Survivors include two sisters, Juanita Powell, of Roanoke and Ellene Mitchell, of Wadley; one brother, Thomas J. Cato, of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews. A Roanoke native, Mr. Cato was born on April 26, 1946 the son of Henry Cornelius and Loie Ann Robinson Cato. He was a 1964 graduate of Handley High School, and he went on to earn his BS degree from Jacksonville State University and his Master's from LaGrange College. Mr. Cato returned to his high school alma mater to teach American History for his entire teaching career where he also served as Key Club sponsor at high school, district and state levels. He also taught at Southern Union State Community College on a part-time basis. Mr. Cato was a member of Lebanon Christian Church where he served as elder, treasurer and pianist. He was active in civic affairs, serving on the board of the Annie L. Awbrey Public Library for many years and in his retirement years, he enjoyed participating in activities at the Roanoke Senior Center. Mr. Cato's lifelong interests were music, theater and reading. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ferris Cato; sister, Ruth Calhoun. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lebanon Christian Church, Annie L.
