A memorial service for CWO Larry Wayne Smith, U.S. Army (Ret.), 79, will be Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel, with military honors. Dr. Bill Snow will be officiating. Mr. Smith died on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Linda J. Smith, of Jacksonville; one daughter, Elizabeth A. Reeve, of Paradise, Texas; one son, Michael W. Smith, of Jacksonville; one brother, Harmon D. (Wilda) Smith, of Granbury, Texas; two grandchildren, Brooke Reeve, of Waxahachie, Texas and Dusty Reeve, M.D., of Springfield, Ill.; one great grandchild, Lucas Reeve; one sister-in-law, Karen Smith, of Tifton, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was born August 11, 1935 in Pelly, Texas. He moved to Odessa, Texas between 1946 and 1947 and graduated from high school in Odessa, in 1953. Mr. Smith enlisted in the Naval Reserves at age 17 and then joined the U.S. Army in 1955 at age 20. During his enlistment, Mr. Smith served two tours in Vietnam; he served in Japan, Germany, Puerto Rico and various posts in the United States. He played on the Army Golf Team at Fort McClellan, subsequently becoming a golf professional until he retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in October 1980. Mr. Smith taught Political Science at Jacksonville State University for two years as an adjunct professor. He was a member of Edgewood Methodist Church and a Master Mason. Through Mr. Smith's walk of faith he was a Sunday school teacher as well as a Sunday School Superintendent. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
