Funeral services for Mr. Lewis Earl Acker, 89, will be Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas Ward, Rev. Garry Brown and Rev. Ricky Pollard officiating. Burial will follow in Piedmont Memory Gardens Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 11:00 - 1:00 prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Acker passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. Survivors include his sons, Robert Earl Acker (Cindy) and Dennis Acker (Donna) of Spring Garden; daughters, Brenda Ferguson of Henderson, Nevada and Marcia Kerns (Tim) of Fort Payne; seven grandchildren, Erica Ferguson Wangrycht (Matt), Kelli Acker (Chris Smith), Colby Acker (Brooke), Meg Kerns, Robby Acker, Kenny Kirk (Brooke), and Josh Kirk (Beth); six great-grandchildren, Emma Wangrycht, Brooklyn Wangrycht, Brylee Acker, Quinton Kirk, Brady Kirk, and Averie Kirk; two sisters, Blanche Acker Rose (Boyd) of Atlanta, GA and Hycie Lee Acker Reedy of Spring Garden. Mr. Acker was preceded in death by his precious wife of 64 years, Margaret Love Acker; grandson, Daryl Ferguson; parents, Fred Acker and Eddie Abernathy Acker; son-in-law, Mike Ferguson; and brother-in-law, Bobby Reedy. Pallbearers will be grandsons, great-grandchildren and nephews. Mr. Acker was a lifelong resident of Cherokee County and a member of the Spring Garden Class of 1947. He was a farmer and poultry man and active in many farming and agricultural organizations. Mr. Acker was a member and trustee of Spring Garden Methodist Church and a community leader. He enjoyed traveling but loved his life as a farmer and country living. Mr. Acker was a director and past president of the Cherokee County Farmers Federation and also served as a director on the Alabama Farmers Federation State Board.
