Memorial service for Mrs. Lexie Cook Wilkes, 81, will be at 2 p.m. today, March 3, 2016, at Heflin First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Michael Burgess officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Mrs. Wilkes passed away on February 29, 2016 at her home. Mrs. Wilkes received her bachelor and masters degrees from The University of Alabama. She went on to teach high school Spanish for 34 years. She taught in Talladega but the majority of her career was spent in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She was a member of Melrose Park United Methodist Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and looked forward to attending its homecoming services every year. She enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles, reading and going out to eat with family and friends. Mrs. Wilkes is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wilkes and a son-in-law, James Michael Wood. She is survived by her daughter, Molly Karen Wood, of Midland, N.C.; a son, Michael Kelly Wilkes and his wife, Johanna Aphrey Dorough Wilkes, of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Paul Michael Wood, Andria Michelle Wilkes, Jackson Scott Wilkes and James Alexander Wilkes; a sister, Molly Webb, of Anniston and a brother, Carl Cook, of Mountain Home, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Heflin First United Methodist Church, P.O.
