Funeral service for Lodrect McDonald, 90, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Whetstone officiating. The family viewing will be from 9:30 a.m. till 10 a.m. and receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home. Mr. McDonald died Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at home. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Survivors include his son, Thomas McDonald & wife, Vivian, of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Peggy McDonald, of Anniston; grandchildren, Victoria McDonald, Jennifer Netherton, Mary Flesher, Allen McDonald and wife, Natalie; great- grandchildren, Meghan & husband, Dylan Lampton; several nieces and nephews. Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Louise McDonald; their son, Doug McDonald. Mr. McDonald was a native of Calhoun County. He was a resident of Anniston since 1947 and was a member of New Haven Baptist Church. He was also a member of the 84th Chemical Warfare Unit, which was attached to the 5th Army and fought as a mortar gunner from Anzio Beach to Riya, close to Lake Garda, in Italy WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Heroism in the Face of the Enemy and the Purple Heart for being wounded under enemy fire. Mr. McDonald worked at Anniston Army Depot for 30 years.
