Funeral service for Loid Dallas Gambrel, 85, will be Sunday, January 25, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Hollis Martin officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Mr. Gambrel passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at his home. Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Bowen (Butch), of Weaver; two sons, Jeff Gambrel, of North Carolina and Tim Gambrel (Marybeth,) of Irondale; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Butch Bowen, Joe Wallace, Michael Wallace, Jimmy Wallace, Andrew Gambrel and Dallas Gambrel. Mr. Gambrel was born in Mills, Kentucky on June 6, 1929. He was a former resident of Fenton, Missouri where he retired from the Chrysler Corporation. He has been a resident of Piedmont for the past 27 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, was a member of the United Auto Workers Union and enjoyed gardening. Mr. Gambrel was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Martin Gambrel; a son, Dallas Dewayne Gambrel; his parents, Tom and Jane Gambrel; five brothers, Floyd Gambrel, Robert Gambrel, Troy Smith, Bert Smith and Albert Gambrel; one sister, Bessie Mills. www.thompsonfuneralhomepiedmont.com
