Mrs. Lois Smith Phelps, of Ranburne, Ala. passed away on February 11, 2015 at her residence. She was 90. Mrs. Phelps was born on May 13, 1924 in Cleburne County, Alabama to the late Jessie and Theora Knowles Smith. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh D. Phelps; her son, Bill Phelps; her seven brothers, John Marshall "Bus" Smith, Herschel Smith, Barney Smith, Lloyd Smith, Grady Smith, Ray Smith, and Roy Smith; her five sisters, Maebelle Williams, Estelle Ledbetter, Ludie Hendrix, Ezell Robinson, and Myrtice Roedersheimer. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Nan Phelps; her son, Hugh Lee Phelps; her grandchildren, Jon Crowell and her husband, Eric, Janssen Phelps, Sam Phelps; her great-grandchildren, Makenzie Crowell, Jake Phelps, Kaleb Archer, Aubree Archer, and James Phelps; a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Phelps was a homemaker and also kept children and sat with the elderly. She had a great love for children and always enjoyed working in the nursery at Ranburne First Baptist Church, where she was a member. She loved to garden, but was foremost a loving mother and grandmother. Service were held on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at 3 p.m. at Ranburne First Baptist Church. Bro. Brian Smith, Bro. Gary Stewart and Bro. Daryl Robinson officiated. Music was provided by the combined choirs of Ranburne First, Corinth, and Shiloh Baptist Churches. Pallbearers were Mack Ledbetter, Sam Phelps, Mike Chambers, Jake Phelps, Grant Moore and Michael Dewberry. Honorary pallbearers were Paul Smith, J.D. Smith, Larry Smith, Billy Wayne Smith, Jim Smith, John Harrod, Bill Wright, Susan and Clyde Patterson, Lori Deese, Delane and Dawn Widener. Interment followed at Shiloh Baptist Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday, February 15, 2015 from 12 p.m. until the funeral services.
