Funeral service for Mrs. Lou Welch Williams, 81, of Jacksonville, will be held Thursday, October 26, 2017, at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Williams. The Reverend Kenneth Welch and Reverend Bob McLeod will officiate. Graveside service will follow at Crestwood Cemetery at 1:30 pm. Her family will receive friends Wednesday at the church from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. She will lie in-state from 10:00 am until service time. Mrs. Williams passed away October 23, 2017, after an extended illness. Mrs. Williams was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved flowers, decorating and cooking. She was retired from the Bursar's Office of Jacksonville State University, a member of the Twelfth Street Baptist Church in Rainbow City and a member of the Altrusa International Community Service Organization. Mrs. Williams is preceded in death by her husband, Winston L. Williams; parents, Ed and Lillie Mae Welch; brothers, Edward, Oscar, Hollis, Louie and Douglas Welch. Mrs. Williams is survived by her daughters, Jane Ponder (Donny) and Pat Blount (John); grandchildren, Krystle McMullen (Greg), Cody Ponder (Lauren Taylor, fiancé), Jeremy Blount and Amy Blount; great-grandsons, Liam and Ellis McMullen; sister, Jean Jenkins (David); brothers, Rev. James Welch (Joan), Rev. Kenneth Welch (Rosemary), Larry Welch; special sisters-in-law, Marguerite Welch "Mutt", Marie Couch; step-children, Marcee Minogue (Frank), Phil Williams (Kim), Meleah Williams and Chris Williams; step-grandchildren, Ashley Williams, Kyle, Emily and Natalie Williams, Michelle Minogue and step-great-grandson, Joey Dunlap, and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Cody Ponder, Jeremy Blount, Greg McMullen, Chase Jenkins, Tim Welch and Ty Green. Special thanks and appreciation to caregiver, Robin Compton and Alacare Hospice Staff, Cassie Rush and Terri Williams. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to "Blessing Bag or Food Pantry" programs at the First Baptist Church of Williams,5579 Nisbet Lake Road, Jacksonville, AL 36265.
