Lucille Barnes Adcock, 87, passed away on January 17, 2016. Lucy was born in Bullhead Township, N.C. on December 8, 1928 to Wiley and Mattie Barnes. After graduating from High School, she enlisted in the Army to expand her horizons. It was while in the Army that she met and married (twice) Marion "Hank" Adcock. They had Russell Charles Adcock and Stefanie Ann Adcock. Lucy and Hank divorced in 1980 and he preceded her in death in 2008; two brothers; and sisters. Lucy had only one grandchild, Austin Adcock, 13, who she loved dearly and enjoyed watching grow up. Her Army career took her many places, Fort McPherson, Ga.; Fort McClellan, Ala.; St Louis, Mo.; and Presidio, Calif. She gathered many friends at her various assignments, some of whom she continued to keep in touch with throughout the rest of her life. She lived for several years in the Fort McClellan area of Anniston/Oxford, where her children both graduated from high school. She continued to serve her community after retiring from Active Duty in 1987 and worked for 10 years at the Salvation Army's Shelter for battered and abused Women in Anniston. She moved to Los Angeles in 2007 to live with her daughter, Stefanie. Her son, Russell, resides in North Carolina as does much of Lucy's remaining family. For the past 3 years she suffered the effects of Alzheimer's. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend and will be greatly missed.
