Funeral service for Lula Mae "Granny" Porter, 101, will be Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Leonard Williams, the Rev. Ronnie Kirkpatrick, and grandson, Keith Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Cherry Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Porter passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015, at Polk Medical Center. Survivors include one son, Bobby Porter (Dean), of Spring Garden; one son-in-law, Hubert Haney, of Cedartown, Ga.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild. Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be grandchildren. Mrs. Porter was born in Cleburne County and had been a resident of Esom Hill all of her life. She was a member of the Esom Hill Church of God, was an avid quilter, enjoyed cooking, and babysitting the grandchildren. Mrs. Porter was known for tying the ribbon officially joining the Chief Ladiga and Silver Comet Trails. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Irvin Porter; three daughters, Lillie Mae Headrick, Myrtye Haney, and Shirley Sherbert Meadows; three sons, Howard Porter, Charles Sherbert and Rosco Coley Jr.; a son-in-law, Edward Headrick; a daughter-in-law, Shelby Porter; three grandchildren; three sisters; four brothers.
