Funeral service for Luther Benjamin Grier Jr., 67, will be on Friday, June 13, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Overcoming Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 576 Peaceful Valley Rd. Ashville, Ala. where Bishop Charles Williams, pastor is officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at Maple Grove Mausoleum. Pastor Grier remains will arrive at the church two hours prior to his services. A wake will be this evening 6-8 p.m. at the Russell H. Williams Memorial Chapel. Pastor Grier passed away on June 9, 2014. He graduated from South Fulton High School in 1965. Pastor Grier served in the US Air Force. He retired from CSX Railroad. At the time of death he served in Northern Diocese as District Elder, was also Vice President of the Alumni Association of W.L. Bonner College in Columbia, S.C., Recording Secretary for the National Board Presbyters, in partnership with Vollara and Pastor of A Place of Refuge in Selma, Ala. Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Grier; his children, Baraka Grier, of Anniston, Tabitha (Andre) Reed, of Minneapolis, Minn., Germell Grier, of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Justin and Jasmine Grier; siblings, Verna Jean (Leon) Curtis, Rachael Baggs, and Jeffrey Grier; in-laws, Gloria Franks, Nina (Richard) Ammons, Betty Jennings, James Jennings; uncles, Isaac (Virginia) Aycock, Horace (Inez) Aycock; aunts, Trina Aycock, Charlie Maude Greer other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Sr. and Rosa Grier; paternal grandparents, Alfred and Martha Addy Greer and maternal grandparents, Elisha and Maryetta Brown Aycock.
