Funeral service for Lynne Bedwell Rhodes, 84, will be Friday, June 9, 2017 at 6 p.m. at Piedmont First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Moye and Joel Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Rhodes passed away peacefully June 8, 2017 at the home of her daughter. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Danny Stone; grandson, Andrew Thomas Stone, all of Piedmont; sister, Virginia B. Dothard; many nieces and nephews; a host of cousins; special friends, Roy and Betty Edwards, and Herb and Becky Davis; caregivers, Artisia Cottingham and Patsy Hill. Mrs. Rhodes was born May 11, 1933 to Robert J. and Mary Bedwell in the Mt. Springs Community in Cherokee County. She graduated from Piedmont High School in 1951. While working at Kress 5&10 in Anniston, she met her late husband, Thomas Rhodes, who was stationed at Ft. McClellan. They married December 1, 1951. She worked in retail at The Fair Store for several years before spending most of her working life sewing at Lawtex and then Bostrom Seating until she retired in 1995. She was a member of the Piedmont First United Methodist Church and Frank Wofford Sunday School Class. She enjoyed working in her flowers and spending time with family and friends. Her greatest joy was her grandson, Andrew. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Thomas Rhodes, and brother, Robert J. Bedwell Jr. Pallbearers will be Andrew Stone, Greg Dothard, George Dothard, Woodrow Williams Jr., Frank Stewart and David Ivey. Honorary pallbearers will be member of the Frank Wofford Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Piedmont First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 268, Piedmont, AL 36272, Piedmont Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 333, Piedmont, AL 36272, or favorite charity. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Courtney Lowe and staff, Amedisys Hospice nurses and staff, Artisia Cottingham and Patsy Hill for the excellent care given.
