Funeral service for Martha Ellen Brown Reaves, 83, will be held, Sunday, October 26, 2014, at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville with the Dr. Derek Staples, the Reverend Bob McLeod, Dr. Donald Machen, Mark Jones and Dr. Bill Meehan officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Jacksonville. The family will receive friends Sunday at the church from 1-3 p.m. prior to service. Mrs. Reaves died Friday, October 24, 2014, at her home. Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Emily Beth Reaves Gray and her husband, James Patton Gray and Bridget Ellen Reaves Chandler and her husband, David Glenn Chandler, both of Jacksonville; four granddaughters, Chelsea Nicole Chandler, Emily Christine Gray, Courtney Victoria Chandler, and Cristen Ellen Chandler; one sister, Dorothy Brown Clarkson and her husband, Robert; one brother, Huey Ray Brown and his wife, Kay, both of Anniston; two sisters-in-law, Lela Mae Rankin Brown, of Piedmont and Rita Clements Reaves, of Jacksonville; two brothers-in-law, Donald Ray Reaves, of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Gaston Otis Patterson, of Jacksonville and many loved nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jimmie Coheley, Mike Clarkson, Galen Brown, Lee Patterson, Lane Patterson, Jeff Reaves, Jacob Wilson and Daniel Coheley. Mrs. Reaves was a lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She loved serving the public in her position at two of the county's banks for a total of 29 years. She was one of Calhoun County's first female bank officers and was once very active in the Anniston Business Women's Club. She was also employed at Jacksonville State University as the Intramural Department Sports secretary for ten years. Mrs. Reaves was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville for fifty years and enjoyed going on Senior trips with the Keenager group. She is preceded in death by her husband, William O Reaves Jr.; her parents, Melvin and Mary Brown; two brothers, Marshal Aaron Brown and Ernest Gordon Brown and her sister, Bertha Brown Tyson. The family would like to express their love and appreciation to Mrs. Jeri Shaw for her compassionate care.
