A celebration of life service will be held for Martha Maurine Harmon, 100, at Miller Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 15 at 12 p.m. followed by the service at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Oxford Memorial Gardens. Ms. Harmon passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at her residence after a short illness. Ms. Harmon was born on Christmas Eve, which was fitting for the gift she so generously shared with us all. She shared her life with each of us through work ethic, humor, life lessons, gardening, meals, hospitality, and her competitive spirit at the senior game competitions. One hundred years of memories and milestones alike. She experienced the best and worst of times but remained steadfast in faith, family and friendship. She had participated in the Alabama Masters Games for many years and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. She competed through the age of 98 and in 2014, was named the Homecoming Queen. Survivors include her daughter, Jerry H. Sparks, of Anniston; son, Michael H. Harmon (Susan), of Rome, Ga.; "other son" nephew, Jacky Sparks (Cheryl) and family, of Anniston; grandchildren, Paige Sparks Nash (Anthony), of Oneonta, R. Darren Sparks, of Orlando, Fla., Michael Shane Harmon (Tina), of Rome, Ga. and Jennifer Harmon Headrick (Chris), of Rome, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Hugh and Emily Nash and Jagger Harmon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian H. Harmon; parents, Henry D. and Cora Fordham Hughes; brothers, Graves, Horace, O.J., Eugene and Ravee Hughes; son-in-law, R. Wayne Sparks; sister-in-law, Margaret Sparks; great-nephew, Nathan Sparks, and great-grandson Harmon Nash. Pallbearers will be nephews Ned, Ted, Dewey Hughes and Jacky Sparks. Honorary pallbearers will be great-nephews Phillip, Bruce, Ray, Gray Hughes and Robert Costanza.
