Martha Whitney Allen, 51, passed away at Regional Medical Center in Anniston on October 11, 2015. Whitney was a native of Anniston and is survived by her brother, Charles W. Allen, who resides in Birmingham with his wife, Beth and daughter, Martha Elizabeth. In 1982, Whitney graduated from Anniston High School, where she was voted Homecoming Queen, was president of the Key Club and the Winner of The State of Alabama's "Voice of Democracy" competition. During her senior year at AHS, Whitney earned the distinction of "Miss Alabama State Fair". Whitney conducted her college studies at Ole Miss. She moved to Birmingham where she went to work for her brother's company, American Exhibition Services (AES), which was North America's leading event marketing company. Whitney proved to be a top performer in AES Public Relations Department, where she renewed contracts with corporate marketing executives at leading trade shows nationwide. Thereafter, she became GM of The Arbor Garden Center in Daphne, Alabama. According to her brother, Charles, "Whitney loved the outdoors, animals, gardening, water skiing, the beach and above all, music. She never failed to light up a room, as well as to bring sunshine and smiles to all who surrounded her, just by her mere presence. Shine on, Whit! The family will be holding a private service to honor Whitney's life. Instead of sending flowers, the family asks that any contributions be made to the Calhoun County Humane Society from which Whitney adopted and cared for numerous pets.
