A memorial service for Mr. Marvin David Dawson, of Anniston, will be held at Parker Memorial Baptist Church today, January 28, 2014, at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. Mack Amis and the Reverend David Bishop officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor from noon until the service hour. Mr. Dawson passed away on the morning of January 25, 2014. Mr. Dawson was born in Anniston on April 1, 1956. He graduated from Walter Wellborn High School in 1974. He attended Jacksonville State University, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and Junior Chamber of Commerce. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1981. Mr. Dawson served as a deacon and as the chairman of the Stewardship Committee at Parker Memorial Baptist Church, where he and his family are members. Mr. Dawson was active in our community as the chairman of the City Planning Commission and served as the City Councilman for ward four. He served on the Board of Directors for both Southtrust Bank and the Berman Museum. He was the assistant coroner of Calhoun County and was employed by Anniston Pathology. Mr. Dawson is survived by his two daughters, Taylor Carol Dawson and Sarah Jane Dawson and their mother, Carol Hales Dawson; siblings, Reverend David Bishop and his wife, Faye, Mrs. Jo Bishop Burns and her husband, Wayne, Truman Wright "Butch" Bishop and his wife, Debbie and Darlene Dawson Daniel and her husband, Ferris and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Dawson is preceded in death by his mother, Doris Bishop Dawson and by his mom and pop, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Bishop. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Parker Memorial Baptist Church Children's Department, P.O. Box 2104, Anniston, AL 36207.
