Oxford - Funeral services for Mary Alice Brown, 79, of Oxford, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013, at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary with the Rev. Joe McNeal officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12 - 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Brown passed away on Monday at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. Survivors include four daughters, Laura Sims (Joe) of Bynum, Debbie Rooks, (Stan), Beverly Hamby (Rudy) all of Anniston and Angie Coley (James) of Oxford; grandchildren, Autumn Rooks, Jamey Hamby, Matthew Rooks, Cameron Coley, Jessey Hamby, P.J. Hamby and her loving cat Monkey2; one sister, Myrtle Jane Verm of Grangerland, Texas. Mrs. Brown is preceded in death by her husband, Pete Brown; son, James Ervin Brown III; daughter, Jamie Elaine Brown; parents, John T. and Lula T. Phillips; brother, Wilbur T. Phillips and sister, Robbie Lee Reddick. Pallbearers will be Cameron Coley, Matthew Rooks, P.J. Hamby, Gary Henderson, Wayne Brown and Brandon Steele. Mrs. Brown was a native of Texas and a resident of Anniston for most of her life. She graduated from New Caney High School. Mrs. Brown was of the Baptist faith.
