Dr. Mary Jo Sisson, 78, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, March 22, 2017. She was born in Ohatchee to William Luther and Lillie (Shurbutt) Sisson. Jo received her Bachelor's Degree from Jacksonville State University, her Master's Degree in Vocational Home Economics Education from LSU, and her Doctorate Degree from Florida State University in Educational Administration in 1977. She was a Home Economics instructor at Ruckle Junior High School, and later served as Home Economics Supervisor for Okaloosa County. She was subsequentially named to post of Director of Vocational and Technical Education for Okaloosa County and as Director of the Okaloosa Applied Technology Center. Jo had many accomplishments and awards during her career, including board member for the Florida Association of Supervision and Developmental Curriculum, received the Distinguished Service Award from the Florida Vocational Association, and named Outstanding Women of America in 1971. She held the position of president of the Home Economics Section of the Florida Vocational Association, vice president of the Florida Vocational Association, and served as vice president for Alpha Omicron Chapter of Delta Kappa Gama. She was a friend and benefactor to many people. Jo enjoyed traveling nationally and internationally. She is survived by her special friend, Dona Cotten; sister, Anne Wood; nieces, Patricia Hurst, Carol Christopher (Fred), Sandra Kurman (Barry), Trillis Causey (Randy), and Pam Davis (Paul); nephews, Bud Hurst, Rick Daniels, Luke Daniels (Christy), Chuck Ward, and Randy Ward. Funeral service will be held Monday, March 27, 2017 at 3 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service at Ohatchee First Baptist Church. Interment will be in Middleton Cemetery in Ohatchee.
