Mary O. Burgess, 98, died Monday, October 24, 2016, at Cleburne Co. Nursing Home. Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Garner, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in Upper Cane Creek Cemetery. Dryden Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include her daughter Myra Gail (A.C) Harris; granddaughter, Holly (Chris) Rajchel; grandson, Nathaniel (Grace) Harris; great-grandsons, Christopher Rajchel, Brayden Rajchel and Steven Melson; great-granddaughters, Savannah Harris and Mary Kate Harris; numerous special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Burgess; her siblings, Ernest Owen, Ed Owen, B.S. Owen and Dot Steed. Mrs. Burgess was a lifelong resident of Edwardsville, where she was one of four original members at the time Edwardsville Baptist Church was reorganized. The Church, where she served as pianist for over forty years, was one of the main pleasures in life. She worked at GE for many years and retired from Moore Business Forms. Family was a primary focus of her life. She opened her heart and home to all, whether it was an individual or the whole extended family. Her home became the place that instilled love of family associated with laughter, good food, games and singing around the piano. Even the great nieces and nephews felt it a special place that taught them the meaning of love and strength in family. She always stood ready to help any in need of assistance. She leaves a good legacy to follow and will be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Edwardsville Baptist Church, 4062 Burton St., Heflin AL 36264 or Upper Cane Creek Church, 661 CR 65, Fruithurst, AL 36262.
