Funeral service for Merylene Ford Pettus, 78, of Anniston, will be 2 pm Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Halls Chapel Church with Rev. Hollis Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Halls Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12 - 2 pm at the church. Mrs. Pettus passed away on Sunday at her residence. Survivors include her husband, Jerry Pettus, son, David Burdette, step-son, Gerald Barker, brother, Edward Ford and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Pettus is preceded in death by her father, Fred Edward Ford, mother, Mable Clara Norred and sister, Rachel Dobbs. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Mrs. Pettus was born in Anniston, AL on Nov. 6, 1939. She was a lifelong member of Halls Chapel Church where she played the organ for several years. Mrs. Pettus loved singing in the choir where she had an amazing ability to remember lyrics to many gospel songs. Mrs. Pettus loved her family and loved being around people. She was very talented with arts and crafts, painting pictures and interior design. Mrs. Pettus also wrote several books about her ancestry. She was a Registered Nurse for 25 years. Her achievements were Who's Who in American Nursing and she also was an American Red Cross Nurse. Mrs. Pettus held Civic Offices such as Calhoun County Personnel Association from 1979 - 1982. She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary, VFW Life Member and Order of the Eastern Star as a Worthy Matron. Gray Brown-Service Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
