Funeral service for Michael "Mike" Witherby, 80, will be Saturday June 6, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Angel Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Starling, the Rev. Truman Norred and the Rev. Jim Wilson officiating. Burial will be in West Point Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Mr. Witherby went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 3, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Melda A. Witherby, of Jacksonville; two daughters, Leigh A. (Ricky) Blaylock, of Plainville, Ga. and Sherri (Henderson) Wright of Dalton, Ga.; three sons, Tim (Jan) Raper, of Summerville, S.C., Charles M. (Rosa) Raper, of Douglas, Ga. and Michael (Monica) Witherby, of Ooltewah, Tenn.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his four-legged baby, Sparky; and special friends, Gary and Glenda Dalbear. Pallbearers will be Charles Thornburg, Billy Taylor, Billy Brown, Jim Heathcock, Gary Dalbear, James Hobbs, Larry Elam and Jackie Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Bryant, Johnny Bryant and members of the Deacon Board at Angel Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Witherby was a member of Angel Grove Baptist Church and has taught the Men's Sunday School Class for many years. He is a veteran of the US Navy where he served his country during the Korean War Era. Mr. Witherby was Past-President for the Jacksonville Kiwanis and a Chaplain for RMC in Anniston for 16 years. He had a passion for witnessing to others during a time of need and loved serving his Lord and Savior. Mr. Witherby became a Master Mason after leaving the military and then went on to work for the US Government as a Systems Analyst at. He loved animals of all kinds, especially dogs, cats and horses and in his spare time he loved to fish. Mr. Witherby was a Jack-of-all-Trades and could fix anything imaginable. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Clara Cline Witherby; three sisters, Pauline (Chuck) Geddes, Patsy (Phil) Palisano and Suzanne Witherby; one brother, David (Judy) Witherby; and his son, Tony Raper.
