Funeral service for Mike Gilliland, 65, will be held today, June 1, 2016, at 2 p.m. from Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Corky Addison and the Rev. Donald Spradlin officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. Mr. Gilliland passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016, at Regional medical Center in Anniston. Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Delana Laney Gilliland; children, Jennifer Barber (Paul), Johnathon Gilliland (Melissa) and Susan Yarbrough, all of Roanoke; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Joe and Randy Gilliland, of Roanoke and Richard Gilliland, of Robertsdale; two sisters, Pat Smith, of Penton and Jane Williams, of Roanokel; host of nieces , nephews and very special friends. Pallbearers will be Jason Smith, Jamie Treadwell, Richard McCormick, Cody Laney, Cory Laney and Tyler Laney. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Randolph County Rescue Squad and Roanoke Cruisers Car Club. A LaFayette native, Mr. Gilliland was born on July 11, 1950, the son of James M. Gilliland and Helen Burgess Gilliland. He lived most of his life in Randolph County and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and a United States Marine Corp Veteran of Vietnam from 1968 to 1970. He was an avid classic car enthusiast and a member of Roanoke Cruisers Car Club and a member of the Randolph County Rescue Squad.
