The funeral service for Mrs. Minnie Lou Russell, 75, of Anniston, will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with Dr. Rick Reaves officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Russell passed away March 18, 2015 at her home in Anniston. A native of Douglas, Alabama, Mrs. Russell retired from Ft. McClellan after working there for many years, then went on to teach at Gadsden State Community College for 17 years. Mrs. Russell was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. She loved Southern Gospel music, played piano for several quartets in her early years, and also taught piano lessons. She enjoyed travelling with her friends and most of all, delighted in being involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Russell is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Berry Russell; a sister, Marie Eller; brothers, Boyd, Manuel and Daniel Murray. She is survived by a daughter, Delayna Gilmore and her husband, Chris, of Alpharetta, Ga.; her sons, Todd Russell and his wife, Anita, of Anniston and Barry Russell and his wife, Julie, of Ohatchee; six grandchildren, Blaine Russell, Giovanni Soto, Isabella Soto, Brianna Russell, Kenton Russell and Payton Russell; a sister, Gayle Hopper, of Boaz; a brother, Joe Murray, of Chattanooga. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Russell's family members. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to The Arc of Calhoun and Cleburne Counties, 401 Noble St, Anniston, AL 36201.
