Miriam Thrash Turner, 84, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Cleburne Co. Nursing Home. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today, June 4, 2015, at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Micheal Burgess officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 11 a.m. until service time. Dryden Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include her sons, Farrell A. Turner and Irwin Lance Turner, both of Heflin; sister, Sarah Phillips, of Ragland and five grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Wyatt Genge, Eric Turner, Keith Turner, Eddie Grubbs, Joey Newton, Newman Akles, Andrew Brown Jr. and Bill Thrash. Mrs Turner was a native and lifelong resident of Cleburne County. She was the former operator of Howle and Turner Store. Mrs. Turner was a member of DAR, UDC and Heflins Spade and Trowel Club. She was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party and served on the Cleburne County Board of Registrars. Mrs. Turner helped establish and support the Hollis Volunteer Fire Department. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Turner and two sisters and two brothers. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cleburne County Nursing Home.
