Funeral service for Ms. Miriam W. Haywood, 89, will be Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, with the Rev. John Simmons, the Rev. Ted Anderson and Ward Pell officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday in the church parlor. Ms. Haywood went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 19, 2014. She is survived by a god-daughter, Paula Cain Boozer, of Birmingham; a god-son, Carrick Benton Pell, of Boston, Mass.; one sister, Nancy W. Jones, of Tuscaloosa; one niece, Luinda Corley, of Tuscaloosa; one nephew, David Jones, of Md.; her four-legged child, Molly; and her adopted families including the Ward Pell family and the late Charley Pell, the Randy and Ann Woodrow family and Mildred Peters. Pallbearers will be James L. Coxwell Sr., Jack Crowe, Douglas C. Woodrow, Charles Bryon Pell Jr., Carrick Benton Pell and Bob Kennamer. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the J-Club. Ms. Haywood was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville and a 1945 graduate of Jacksonville State Univeristy. She was also a member of the J-Club, Alpha Xi Delta, the Gamecock Club, the Retired Faculty-Staff Club, Calhoun County Alumni Association and the University of Florida Goal Liners, where she was a Charter Member. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations please be made to Miriam Haywood Chimes, c/o the JSU Foundation, 700 Pelham Road N, Jacksonville, AL 36265.
