Memorial service for Morris Leaton Stokes, 88, will be 3 p.m. today, June 27, 2015, at Meadowbrook Baptist Church with Dr. John White officiating. The family will receive friends today from 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. at the church. Mr. Stokes passed away on Thursday at RMC. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Martha Pendley Stokes; four sons, Mitchell Stokes (Anita), Raymond Stokes (Karen), Roger Stokes and Danny Stokes (Lisa); seven grandchildren, Dustin Stokes (Jessica), Leah Suddeth (Blake), Bethany Perry (David), Andrea Stokes, Brett Stokes, Alex Stokes and Bridgette Stokes and two great-grandchildren, Hannah & Noah Perry. Mr. Stokes is preceded in death by his parents, Ferris and Rennie Stokes; twin brother, Horace Stokes and sister, Gladys Stokes. Mr. Stokes was a native of Steens, Mississippi and was a resident of Calhoun County for most of his life. He was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church and Eastaboga Masonic Lodge #155. Mr. Stokes retired from the Anniston Army Depot. He was an avid gardener, featured multiple times in the Anniston Star. Mr. Stokes was a WWII U.S. Army veteran.
