Graveside service with full military honors for MSG (Ret) Edwin Utah Stone, 68, will be Saturday, March 7, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Green's Cemetery. Mr. Stone passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in Gadsden to the late Frank and Mary Opal Stone. He was a 20 year veteran with the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of the Purple Heart (3d Oak Leaf Cluster), the Bronze Star Medal, among numerous other medals. Upon his military retirement, he was employed for 20 years by the U.S. Department of the Army as Strength Manager in Military Personnel at Fort McClellan. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sharon Lockette Stone; one brother, Gary Stone (Judy), of Angeles City, Philippines; step-daughter, Stephanie Lewis; three grandchildren, Michael, Jordan and Abbigail; sister-in-law; brothers-in-law; nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Stone, of Gadsden. He loved home, gardening, woodworking, animals and many years of travel. Thompson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
