A Celebration of Life ceremony for Mrs. Nancy Nicholson Power Carr will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at Fairhope United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. A reception will follow. A private interment will be held at a later date. Mrs. Carr graduated from Alabama College for Women (Montevallo University). After marriage, her and Mr. Carr moved to Anniston. Mrs Carr taught for 15 years at Noble Street Elementary. In 1986 Mr. and Mrs. Carr retired to Fairhope, Ala. where they became active participants in the community. Along with her husband, she was an avid Alabama fan. Mrs. Carr was of Methodist faith and an active member of Fairhope United Methodist Church where she served as a Stephen Minister, a member of Cecil Christenberry Sunday School Class, a supporter of Caring Ministries and a member of the Edith Lawson Women's Circle. She was a member of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence, Ecor Rouge Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Friends of the Fairhope Library. Mrs. Carr enjoyed being on the Board of the Baldwin County Traveler's Club where she led and participated in numerous trips and excursions. As a member of the Newcomer's Club, Mrs. Carr introduced marathon bridge to the area and continued to participate in the game until 2013. Love of family, church and friends has sustained Mrs. Carr throughout her life. Nancy is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Robert Bryan Carr Jr.; her loving parents, Andrew Jackson Powers and Letitia Thorne Nelson Powers; sisters, Mary Powers Dooley, Elizabeth Powers Banks and Mabel Powers Quimby. Mrs. Carr is survived by her four children, Nancy Carr Walburn, Robert Bryan Carr III (Ann), Mary Nelson Carr Finger (Van) and Jackson Powers Carr (Phyllis); nine grandchildren, Margaret Thorne Walburn Bashinsky (Leo), Mary Nicholson Walburn Cozart (Todd), Henry Gunter Hodo Walburn (Jennifer), Ann Elizabeth Carr, Bryan Christopher Carr (Millie), Van Palmer Finger III, Robert Nelson Finger (Kelsey), Andrew Lyne Carr and Maura Nelson Carr; nine great-grandchildren, Leo Max Bashinsky V, Anna Nelson Bashinsky, Mary Margaret Cozart, Henry Smith Cozart, Henry Gunter Hodo Walburn Jr., William Hudson Walburn, Caroline Reese Walburn, Anna Catherine Carr and Samuel Christopher Carr; sister-in-law, Betty Carr,of Anniston; three dear friends, Helen Autry, Jamie Autry and Essie English - their love and devotion to her care was impeccable. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fairhope United Methodist Church, Columbarium Fund, 155 South Section Street, Fairhope, AL 36532.
