Neal Watson Self was born May 17, 1926 in Anniston Alabama. He passed from this life on November 2, 2017 at his home in Claxton Georgia. In 1944 Neal left Anniston to serve in the Navy. He fought in the Philippines and the Marshall Islands during World War II. Upon returning after his service in the Navy, Neal went to Georgia Institute of Technology where he received his degree in Industrial Engineering. Neal married Edith Lynette Peace on January 10, 1948 in Anniston Alabama. Edith preceded Neal in death in 2015 after 67 years of marriage. After graduation from Georgia Tech in 1950 he went to work for Case in Anniston Alabama and later in Burlington Iowa. From Iowa he went to work for Loadcraft in Augusta Kansas and then transferred to Brady Texas. At Brady he was general manager for Loadcraft until 1972. He went to work for Rome Plow in Cedartown Georgia and then transferred to Claxton Georgia in 1984 and worked at Rome Engineering and Manufacturing Company until 2007. He is survived by one brother Jonathan Morris Self of Denver Colorado, five children, Mary Louise Beeman and Leo of Durango Colorado, David Edward Self and Sharon of Claxton Georgia, Rebecca Jones and Jerry of Hazelhurst Georgia, William Scott Self of Claxton Georgia and Sara Alice Garner and Robbie of Cedartown Georgia, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In lieu of flowers, Neal requested donations be sent to St. Jude's Children Hospital. The funeral will be at the United Methodist Church on Friday November 10th in Claxton Georgia. Viewing and visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 am and services will be immediately following at 11:00am. He will be taken and laid to rest alongside his wife in Anniston Alabama.
