Service for Nellie Jo Young Prater, 83, will be Sunday, June 7, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Jacob Sims and the Rev. Wade Acton officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12- 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Prater passed away Friday, June 5, 2015, at McGuffey's Health and Rehab Center. Survivors include her children, Gail Pointer (Danny) and Ann Sexton (Jeff), all of Piedmont, Brian Prater (Vicki), of Anniston, Brenda Spears (Jack), of Piedmont and Jerry Pike (Jan), of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren, Shane Pointer (Julie), Alan Grissom (Natalie), Ashley Malone (Kerry), Patrick Prater (Crystal), Mark Prater, Andrew Prater, Jud Pike (LeAnn) and Jessica Singleton (Brandon); 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Josephine Young, Helen Reedy and Kay Anderson (Billy); three brothers, Arnold Young (Mara), Wayne Young (Alice) and Lee Young (Reta); several nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caregiver, Vorice McBurnett. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Mrs. Prater was a lifelong resident of Piedmont. She was a member of Piedmont Cumberland Presbyterian Church and had retired from Springs Industries. She is preceded in death by one son, Steve Law; husbands, Hershel Prater and Cecil Pike; parents, Samuel and Velma Young; one sister, Janice Young; three brothers, Kenneth Young, Sammy Young, and Billy Young.
