Funeral service for Ms. Nellie Mae Massingale will be Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at New Life Gospel Church. Interment will be in Westview Cemetery. Ms. Massingale will lie in state at the church two hours prior to service. Ms. Nellie Mae Massingale was born Wednesday, July 13, 1938, to the late Mr. Ben Farrior and Mrs. Ada Bell Young in Talladega. Ms. Massingale confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with St. John's Baptist Church in Tacoma, Washington, where she sang in the choir and was an active participant with the usher ministry. She served as the pastor's aide at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Upon relocation to Talladega, she joined Greater Faith Church, were she served as a missionary leader, usher, choir member, head cook and eventually became the mother of the church. Ms. Massingale received her formal education in the Sycamore county school system and received her home health care certificate in Talladega county. Nellie was employed with Crown Textile Mill for over 15 years. On Tuesday, November 29, 2016, Ms. Massingale received her call to her eternal rest while she was a hospice patient with Gentiva Hospice Home Health. Her passing left a tremendous void in the hearts of her family, friends and church members. She leaves to cherish her memory, five children, Charles E. Massingale, of Montgomery, Deterich (Cynthia) Massingale, of Montgomery, Glenda (Anderson) Charles, of Montgomery, Marcus (Angela) Massingale, of Mcdonough, Ga., Adriane Massingale, of Talladega; god-daughter, Sherry Dates, of Montgomery; eleven grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her mother, Ada Bell Young; five sisters, Josephine Gaston, Patricia Bryant, Melinda Taylor, Shirley Tanner and Mary Louise Farrior, all of Talladega, and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be directed by Ross Clayton Funeral Home.
