Neria Nelson, eternally 29, passed away Wednesday, August, 9, 2017, at the Regional Medical Center in Anniston after a brief illness. Neria is survived by her husband of 67 years, John E. Nelson Jr., of Jacksonville; three daughters, Ana Beatty, of Mandeville, La., Judi Swingen, of Covington, La. and Yvonne MacNeill, of San Marcos, Texas; daughter-in-law, Ronnie Nelson, of New Hyde Park, N.Y.; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many family members, currently living in Venezuela. She is preceded in death by a son, John E. Nelson III, of New Hyde Park, New York. Neria was an avid golfer, served as President of Fort McClellan Ladies Golf Association, won several trophies, golf tournaments, awards and made a hole-in-one in 1980. But, winning wasn't as important to her as was the fellowship and the making of new friends. She never met a stranger and there was no such thing as a quick trip to the grocery store. She always found time to talk to everyone she met and made numerous friends over the years. Neria loved to cook and prepared dozens of cookies and numerous fruit cakes for her friends during the Christmas Season. Due to unforeseen circumstances, it will not be possible to hold a memorial for Mrs. Nelson. In lieu of the memorial service, please feel free to visit her beloved husband, John Nelson, at the McGuffey Health and Rehab in Gadsden. Online condolences may be sent to K.L.
