Nola Marie Kirk, 82, was called home by her Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, October 6, 2017 at her Piedmont residence surrounded by family and friends. We will celebrate her life with a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Piedmont with the Rev. Tommy Ledbetter and Dr. Kevin Payne officiating. A private graveside service will be at Highland Cemetery. Marie was born on December 7, 1934, in Piedmont. Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Connie (Randall) Whorton, Jeff Kirk, and Pat (Tammy) Kirk; one sister, Sally Gilmer; five grandchildren, Cassie (Andy) Pody, Drew Kirk, Dallas (Bree) Whorton, Savannah Kirk, and Cain Eric Kirk (Meagan). She also loved and cherished her five great-grandchildren, Aiden Kirk, Olivia Kirby, Scout Whorton, Rhett and Caroline Pody, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. She was blessed to have a special caregiver, Pat Morrison. Marie was a homemaker for most of her life, enjoyed working in her garden and sewing. She enjoyed volunteering at the Piedmont Benevolent Center, the Piedmont Welcome Center, Jacksonville Hospital and worked as a poll inspector during many elections. She loved her church family at Piedmont First United Methodist Church and delighted in being a member of the Frank Wofford Sunday School Class. Today she has heard Jesus say "well done, my daughter", as she was greeted by Jerry Kirk, her beloved husband of 46 years; her parents, J.C. and Nola McCain Sr.; two brothers, J.C. and Bill McCain and all her loved ones in her heavenly home.
