SFC Orbie A. Thacker Sr., USA Ret., 87, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2015. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home, with Pastor Ronnie Moore officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until service time. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at the Thacker Family Cemetery in Ohatchee. Orbie was born in Etowah County, Ala. on August 13, 1927. Orbie loved fishing, Nascar Racing and Alabama Football and especially loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Orbie enlisted to serve his country on January 5, 1945. He served the Army as a photographer until his retirement on July 31, 1966. He received many decorations, citations and commendations for his years of service. After military retirement Orbie and his family resided in Ohatchee for the last 49 years. During that time he worked for Central Photo in Anniston, Ala. and Dixie Tool & Dye in Gadsden, Ala. Mr. Thacker was preceded in death by his parents, Talmadge Philip Thacker and Annie Mae Ledbetter Thacker; his mother-in-law, Lou Roberts and father-in law, Ronal Roberts, of Duck Springs, Ala.; his daughter, Debra Thacker Smith; his granddaughter, Regina Lynn Roden; his grandson, Chuck Thacker; his son-in-law Rick Stallo; brothers, J.P. and Lonnie Thacker; sisters, Martha Allen, Evelyn Pendergrass and Kathryn Henderson. Orbie is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 66 years, Ellie Mae Roberts Thacker; his sisters, Ella Jean Steel and Betty Joyce Bird, of Attalla; his brothers, William and Joe Thacker; brother-in-law, Johnny Roberts (Frieda); Orbie is also survived by his children, Linda Roden (Harold), Brenda Stallo (Jeff), Judy Wolfe (George), Alvin Thacker (Robin), Kay Brown (Mark), Donald Thacker (Amanda) and Ronal Thacker (Stephanie); his grandchildren, Sandra Gowans (Blu), Craig Roden (Shelli), Philip Roden (Angie), Jamy Roden (Stacie), Bobby Wolfe and Melinda Wolfe Sullivan, Nick Thacker, Bo Smith, Kristen Thacker, Ryan Thacker, Jessica Martin (Clayton), Anna Thacker, Brayden Thacker, Haley McCormick, Jamie Brown Ginn and Jason Brown; his great-grandchildren, Emily, Laura and Katie Sisk, Tyler and Jack Roden, Rachel and Kayla Gowans, Tanner and Lily Roden, Helena and Daniel Roden, Katelyn and Kyleigh Wolfe, Ellie Sullivan, Adalyn Thacker, Reid Martin and Brooke and Max Ginn; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends. Pallbearers will be the US Army Honors Team.
