Funeral service for Orbie Wayne Spradlin, 82, of Lineville, was held on Monday, March 9, 2015, at 11 a.m. from Mt. Carmel Church of Christ with Mark Carpenter and Ricky Murphy officiating. Mr. Spradlin will lie in state one hour prior to services beginning. Burial will follow at the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family received friends at the funeral home from 3:30-7 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2015. Mr. Spradlin passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015, at East Alabama Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Alva Jean Arrington Spradlin; two daughters, Debra Holland, of Powahtan, Va. and Sherry Gillis, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; one son, Gary Spradlin, of Gadsden; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Ruth Crenshaw, of Woodland, Ann Turner, of Mableton, Ga. and Jean Richardson, of Merritt Island, Fla.; two brothers, Basil Spradlin and Donald Spradlin, both, of Woodland. Pallbearers will be Brandon Teague, Cory Spradlin, Shane Gable, Bobby Crenshaw, Gary Spradlin, and Peter Gillis. A Randolph County native, Mr. Spradlin was born on April 23, 1932 the son of William J. "Bill" Spradlin and Bertha Lola Prince. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Church of Christ and had been employed as an operator at Monsanto. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Noles Spradlin; six brothers, Horace Spradlin, Winston Spradlin, Ira Spradlin, Marvin Spradlin, William J. Spradlin, and Prince Spradlin.
