Pamela Abernathy Chapin

Pamela Abernathy Chapin passed away at her home in Murfreesboro, Tenn. on July 1, 2014. Pamela was born in Piedmont, Ala. on October 21, 1950. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Harold Abernathy; mother, Fair Nicholson; sister, Frankie Allene Fisher; her sons, Stephen Mitchell and Matthew Mitchell. Pamela is survived by her husband of 26 years, Ronald Bruce Chapin. Other surviving relatives include her sister-in-law, Janet Chapin, of Silver Spring, Md.; step daughter, Cheryl Chapin; 2 foster children and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews in the greater Piedmont area. Pamela was multitalented. She was a dedicated health care provider and served as a clinical laboratory manager, laboratory technologist and in several care giving roles in many hospitals in California. She served as Recreation Director in upstate, New York. She served as Executive Director of the San Lorenzo Valley California Senior Center. She was Executive Editor of the Buffalo Beat in Buffalo, New York. Pamela was active in the Episcopal Church and its ministries, coordinating community services and disaster relief in San Lorenzo Valley, Calif., attending and teaching in the Education for Ministry program in Western New York. She is an alumnus of Western New York Episcopal Cursillo No. 17. Funeral service are to be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Piedmont with the Rev. Thomas Ward officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery.
