Funeral service for Ms. Patricia "Pat" W. Gorey, 71, will be Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Jones officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Ms. Gorey died on Friday, November 14, 2014 at RMC in Anniston. She is survived by two sons, Charles "Chuck" P. (Regina) Gorey, of Luverne and Craig R. Gorey, of Jacksonville; one daughter, Nikki S. (Mike) Gorey, of Weaver; seven grandchildren, Chad Gorey, Cameron (Cody) Gorey, Bradley Gorey and Ashley Gorey, all of Luverne and Nicklaus Ledbetter, Gage Ledbetter and Makenzie Ledbetter, all of Weaver; one great grandson, Collin Smith; four nieces, Tanya Johnson, Teri Johnson, Sheri Johnson and Kelly (Mike) McCord; two nephews, Sean Prescott and Steve Prescott; one great niece, Savannah McCord; one great nephew Graham (Lauren) Lewis; one god-daughters, Cindy Willis, Chelsi Willis; and one God-grandson, Josh Willis. Pallbearers will be Mike McCord, David Luttrell, Graham Lewis, Josh Willis, Paul Allen and William Baker. Ms. Gorey was a graduate of Handly High School in Roanoke where she was a member of the marching band. Upon graduation she attended Jacksonville State University. Ms. Gorey was a member of the Ladies of the Moose for 40 years where she held many offices and received numerous awards. She was a member of the Gold Star Club through the American Legion, in honor of her father, Herbert Wright. In the early 1970's, Ms. Gorey started working at the Jacksonville Daycare Center, a non-profit program for low income, working parents. This daycare center was the first of its kind in the state of Alabama. After 32 years of dedicated hard work and service "Miss Pat" or "Gran Pat" retired, leaving her mark for truly making a difference in the lives of hundreds of children and their families. Although she will be greatly missed by her friends and family, she will always be remembered as a blessing to all who knew her and an Angel here on Earth. Ms. Gorey was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby George Gorey; her father, Herbert Wright, a WWII hero who was killed on Mandinka Island May 11, 1945; her mother, Pauline Wright Spears; and her adopted father, Grady Spears. The family will be accepting flowers or donations may be made to the 2014 Ronald McDonald House of Charities of Alabama, 1700 4th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL. Online condolences to the family at: K.
