Penelope F. "Penny" Young

Richmond, Virginia - Penelope F. Young (Penny), 85, died on December 11, 2013 in Richmond, Virginia. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil H. Young, Jr. and her two sisters. She is survived by her daughters Dorothy C. Young (Alan Stone) and Alice D. Young (Giacomo Pastore), and four grandchildren. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and she will be sorely missed. Mrs. Young was born in Massachusetts and grew up in New York and North Carolina. After graduation from Salem College she worked in New York City, first as a model and then in the publishing industry. She spent her married life in Anniston and was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. She was involved in many church and charitable activities. She was instrumental in the founding of the Anniston Academy (now the Donoho School), taking a particular interest in establishing its library. She also helped to found the Alabama Shakespeare Festival Guild (now the Junior League of Anniston-Calhoun). Mrs. Young was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames of America. She will be buried at Edgemont Cemetery with a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 3. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Donoho School (the Library), 2501 Henry Road, Anniston, AL 36207 or to Grace Episcopal Church, 1000 Leighton Ave., Anniston, AL 36207.
