Phillip Franklin Hancock, 64, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2017 after a brief illness at Riverview Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oaklin Paul and Mary Ruth Bolt Hancock; guardians, Helen and Don Quenby, and sisters, Paula Jean Garmany and Phyllis Hancock. He was a 1971 graduate Glencoe High School and entered the military in the fall. He was married to Linda McAfee Hancock from 1974 until 1990 and had two daughters, Melissa and Rene. He retired from the U.S. Army after proudly serving 20 years. He then worked as a Security guard at Pinkerton, worked in the traffic division and manager of U-Haul, Gadsden, and retired from Federal Mogul because of health issues. He loved his children, grandchildren, and family. He was well respected by all who knew and loved him. For years he enjoyed being the security guard at the North AL CH Youth camps where the kids all loved him. He is survived by his daughters, Rene (Thomas) Steele and Melissa Cooper-Wardin; two brothers, Paul (Martha) Hancock and Perry Hancock; two sisters, Helen (Harold) Gibbs and Patricia (Fred) Jenkins, and six grandchildren, Brandon and Jason Steele, Aaron, Haydon, Quinton, and Gracylin Cooper. Funeral service, with military honors, will be today, June 22, 2017 at 2 p.m. from Dansby Heritage Chapel. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. As per his request, he will be cremated following the service. Honorary pallbearers who deserve special thanks are Dr. Hakim, Dr. Quillow, Dr. Naughton and the CCU Unit at Riverview Hospital. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to North Alabama CH Youth Camp, c/o Jimmy Williams, 155 Hardwood Hill Drive, Centre, AL 35960. Dansby Heritage Chapel is honored to serve the Hancock Family.
